Recreational Play
Recreational play takes place regularly and year ‘round on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Lorenzi Park 3333 W. Washington Ave. Las Vegas, NV 89107.(MAP) Activities commence at 8:00 am in the warmer months and at 8:30 am in the cooler months. There are basically two groups of players -- one group is comprised of men ages 50-64, the other group is men 65 and over and all women. There are exceptions. Highly skilled older players can play with the 50-64 group and those younger players who don’t feel comfortable playing in the younger group -- for whatever reason -- can play in the older group. Two Commissioners -- one old, one young -- are assigned who are charged with organizing the play (Contact Commissioners)
Various rules have been established for recreational play that are seldom seen in tournament play. Some of them are for safety reasons, e.g. a pitching screen, others are to encourage players with diminishing skills, e.g. outfielders must play at least 150 from home plate against players aged 75 and older and the player cannot be thrown out at first base from the outfield.
Concerning safety -- LVSSA purchased a defibrillator and has enrolled several players in a class concerning its use. This defibrillator is always available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Many men and women in their 50s and early 60s work during the week and are unable to play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In order to accommodate them, an informal program takes place at Lorenzi Park on Saturdays. Additional information on this can be obtained by from the appropriate age representative. General Information
Free snacks are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Drinks can be purchased.
One $50 fee per calendar year covers all of the above -- and a lot more. See “Becoming a Member” under “General Information”.
